Plastimo Iris 50 Compass - Simply the Best!
Good protection against hard knocks: the smooth finish feels soft in your hand, and it will not slip, even if it is wet.
Outstanding legibility of the card, with one-degree graduations:
No parallax error: a prism projects the reading of the bearing to infinity. This also contributes to a more comfortable operation, as you do not need to alternate close-reading to read the card and infinite-reading to take bearings.
Optimum conditions to take bearings: thanks to the superb card stability and the wide 20° field of view, which will accommodate the roughest sea conditions.
Most accurate bearing: the pivot and very hard stone are a guarantee of long life and shock resistance of your compass.
Soft bottom cell: engineered using ultra-sonic welding, it acts like an expansion diaphragm, preventing the formation of bubbles and leaks.
Built-in photoluminescent lighting: so it's completely maintenance-free, impervious to corrosion, and operates without batteries or radio-active tritium.
Course reading from above the compass: you can read your compass like a standard compass, with no need to look through the prism.
Although the Iris 50 has a UK RRP of £57.40 (£47.83 ex vat) lower prices can be found online.

Atlantic France

By: RCC Pilotage Foundation
'North Biscay' has been renamed Atlantic France to reflect the extended coverage to the Spanish border.
Jeremy Parkinson has revisited the West coast of France and, from his research over the past two years has produced this new renamed edition. Throughout, the harbour plans have been revised and in many case improved. In particular, the coverage of Brest now includes the new Marina du Chateau, large scale plans of the marinas at Lorient have been added and plans are provided of the small harbours in the Gironde.
At the north end the Brittany harbour of L'Aberwrac'h, the key to entering the Chenal du Four, is now included and in the south Arcachon, Capbreton, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz and the Rada de Higuer up to the Spanish border are included.
Many of the photographs are new and at the end of 2009 Patrick Roach was commissioned to produce a new set of aerial photos and amongst these is unique coverage of Brest.
Atlantic France is the authoratitive cruising companion for this long and varied coastline and its publication will be welcomed by both first time visitors and old West coast of France hands.

Shell Channel Pilot by Tom Cunliffe (6th Edition)
The Shell Channel Pilot
By: Tom CunliffeSouth coast of England, the North coast of France and the Channel Islands
The Shell Channel Pilot stands alone as the ultimate authority on cruising both sides of the English Channel. Ever since the 1930s, when Adlard Coles published the original version, it has been steadily upgraded and updated. The work never ceases. Under the Imray / Cunliffe house flag since 1992, it represents more than eighty years of effort.
This is the sixth Imray edition, indicating that the book is re-issued every three years in the untiring endeavour to keep it up to date. This time, the text has been organised into defined sections. Each is prefaced by passage notes which are more comprehensive than previously, lifting the work far above any simple harbour guide. Also included is advice about Channel-crossing navigation, regulations, health and paperwork on both sides of the water. Best of all remain the pilotage notes, the plans, the aerial and approach shots for harbours great and obscure, plus the author's frank remarks about shoreside facilities. The net result is unique - rigorous navigation advice to pilot you safely through the rocks, spiced with a light touch guaranteed to raise a salty chuckle on winter evenings while you plan next summer's voyaging.
As a guide and a shipmate, there is nothing like it.
A4. Hardback, full colour plans & photographs throughout.
